hippos Vs. Cheetahs charles ayittey

Very gracious, and begins right of explaining. Cheetah generation, quick far sighted, democratic africans that want to help-take no corruption, and Africa's salvation rest on them.  and then there are hippos, greedy, complaining, ruling class.
----corrupion cost them billions!
Africa is rich but that wealth is not distributed amongst people. It makes people mad, but there are so many people that want to help africa but the people of africa dont understand.
---- Its a sad story when people don't understand help, "taking it the wrong way", and it's sad when help is needed and wanted, but rejected due to ignorance. That is where we need to start, on the ignorance.
Much of Africas mistakes lie in the leadership.
Asked his internet forum to name 20 good leaders out of 204. They couldn't.
it allows an insight into the fact that people have been so turned off to leadership, they no longer invest in it.
Bandits, crooks, and thives lead in africa and rake money off the backs of the people another example of the ignorance of the african people. They don't need medical and monetary help. They need to understand.
Speaker VERY passionate. moving and also humorous. Gets his point across well and clearly even though he is hard to understand
Speaks of the ignoring of the informal and the people, traditionally, Africans hate governments, and that is exactly what they have. and that is why they are falling apart.
-- African operate best and by choice, under themselves as a community, and that is the opposite of what they have.
--We need to go back to the traditional Africa to find the real africa.
--------Good passionate talk, i was moved by his power and by his conviction in what he was speaking about.

Dave Eggers

Looks very nervous.  And relizes how nervous he actually is. Has no clear point right away. Very quick talking ahrd to follow and mumbles. Starts out shakey.
----Talks about how some students need 1 on 1 attention and don't recive.
He relizes how poorly he is speaking but does not slow down.
Good natured audiance however and laughs at his slight flustering.
----Takes is building attached to tutoring school.
----Awesome building for students who need help on english, but needed to sell something, so as a joke they sold pirate supplies to make a "store" that added a comfortable feel.
Store offers 1 on 1 attention that children need, also from real professional writers or publishers, there was no stigma, no "extra help" thing, so gifted children could come get help too.
1400 volenteers! He certainly is passionate about this, he loves that this is happening, and obviously wants it to spread.
----Very cool idea and it seems to work well.
----they are in many many schools, and seem tho be having a serious effect on childrens school performance, and seem to be almost exciting children in these schools about writing and reading.
----Their store works because of the tutoring and then more people became invested int he tutoring because of the store.
Talks passionatly if nervously and confusingly.
Stores popping up all over the USA.
Overall, not the best talk but an Awesome Idea and movement, However on a deeper level, there is not much. However, these stores are having an unexpected effect on the communities they are in. Families that would never have become invested in education are, kids who hate school now excel at it. He made a joke about homework making a happier community, but in reality, the fact that these kids are investing more than just their time in their education is creating a educated and potentially happy community.

Charles Anderson. Dragonflies

Starts slightly dull, and remains slightly dull through out, and by dull i mean unanimated stoic. However you feel the passion about his topic and that makes the talk. Makes attempt at humor. ( I thought it was funny but the crowd did not )
----- Although his topic is neither a need to know topic nor a life changing deep philosophical one, however it is interesting and he loves it and so it makes it a good ted talk.
He speaks on a very personal level. you feel as though you are old friends talking with him at his dinner table. It adds to the understanding of his speech.
---- However His speech has no point other than to educate the listener which although not a bad thing, makes for a slightly boring speech in and of itself.

Clay Shirky Ted talk

Begins with examplistic stroy about atuomating information on a blog site.
-Went from single idea, ushahiti, to a worldwide platfrom used in all different coyntries.
-- congnitive surplus, ability of Worlds population to collaborate on project.
-- Lol cats stupidest possible creative act, is still a creative act, they have put something forward, and can then expand upon that
--Design for generosity,do things because we like to do them.
--Punishment sometimes makes things much worse.
Social constraints make a more genorous society.
Communal value Vs. Civic Value.
-----Very Very boring, he had to much contiuous information wihtout breaks and or connections that were explained and connected to his very unapparant point. You could, however, feel that he had a vested intrest in this topic. Beyond that his point wast to fast and his speech to slow.
-On cognative surplus i didn't really understand what he was talking about to be honest he went far to fast, and was far to confuseing. however what i did understand is it is the modern worlds ability to come together and work on sometign. Combined with our free time, search for  "The higher things in life", and our connected world, people can and will come together and try to acomplish something.

What i was supposed to do last night. (Frank Ghery, nice building now what?)

begins with story. The story has humor, and no point other than to add humor. Humor to start is an universal tactic. Not normal TEd talk almost Q&A. Speaks of his life and how he began being an architect. Speaks about the fact that, he goes into each new project with apprehension.
- I get a humble yet proud feeling from Frank, as if he is immensely proud but knows he should be humble.
-However, the is not much depth of thought in this TED talk, it is more of a speech on the achievements of Frank Ghery. Beyond that though, his approach to his Architecture shows his creativity, His statement "If i know where im going, i throw it away" It really shows, not only his spontaneity, but that the true beauty of his work lies in the fact that it is first, not work, and second a creation truly of a genuine and unique idea.

In his speaking little is remarkable, it seems more a monotone memoir of an old talented architect, however elements of his almost childlike mischievous nature clearly shine though art several points in his monologue.

Dan Pink Ted talk

Again leads with humor, much like Sir Ken.  Fast pace, no time to process points.
---- People with incentive always do better faster, but thats untrue.
-It, however makes extreme sense, when we do something, when we do it for and only for ourselves and personal enjoyment and or curiosity, we will tackle it wholeheartedly, not caring nor thinking of how long it will take or what we will get after the fact. When someone is focused more on what happens after the task, the task itself losing focus and actual importance, and therefore will take longer, seems harder etc.
Hard to focus on his point because of his speed and slightly unexplained connections.
---- Simple tasks however, can be incentivized, and will be done faster by those who are incentivized.
- When the task can be done without thought, or with little thought, the people, who are thinking about money, will try to do it fast, unlike those without incentive who feel no need for speed. And, the task being simple, people even preoccupied with the ned result will complete it faster.
Dan uses much less, humor but more passion. however the passion is used for hard facts, examples. Not very entertaining but very informational. However, he uses the "lawyer, presenting a case."
-businesses, as Sir Ken also said, are stuck in 19'th and 20'th century practices, financial motivation, steering children away from creative lines of study.
But in a more creative world, those things don't always work. For more open minded, non-mechanical tasks financial motivation ruins a person.
-------- He makes a passionate well proven and clear point. Uses a fall back saying" there's a mismatch....... business does" The beginning is, however too fast paced and i find it hard to follow. Not the most entertaining but very informational.

Sir Ken Robinson

Use of humor to begin--- and thoughout, as well as useing language and examples that are easily connected to, commonplace and inderstandable. Speaks of his children, and then hits it home.
--- Hard to understand his main point, however cleverly he brings his aduiance into it.
--------Children are born artists, then lose it.
--------Benine advice held back previous generation
--------School makes certain brilliant people feel otherwise
--------Degrees mean less now than before
------- Three things about intelligent, Diverse, dynamic, distinct
Uses mass personal connection with the adiuance, and or stroies to bring his point home, however the point is eaisly lost admist his humor and stories. However i did understand that modern schools force mold children to their paramiters, and don't allow for the creative side of learning. But beyond that we restrict the creativity that is natural. He makes the point that the point of the point of our education to to make a profressor. Acedemically focused, the education was made for the industrial age, an age of straight forward, black and white, surface level work and thought. This part, makes this move and that thing that moves makes everyone clothes and those clothes make us money and so on and so on. And according to Sir Ken, we have gotten to the point where creativity is needed, and repressed because of an outdated system. Overall, he made a point that he obiviously cared about, and delivered well with humor and stories mixed with the serious points.
